The Documented Life Project: Week 3

The prompt for week 3 was to add an envelope.   I decided to use two envelopes that I had received from my friend Ruth which she had drawn on.  I made them into pockets and altered them a bit and did my best to not loose any of her art.

I placed this envelope in the front of my planner.

Below are my planner pages for the week. They are best viewed if you click on them for a larger image. Since the prompt was to use an envelope I decided to use other mail related items on my pages.  The card that says “Love Yourself” is actually a postcard I had made of a picture I took two years ago.  See the second image below to see the postcard’s picture.  The card on the right hand side is from a credit card offer.  The stamp below that is from the first envelope I altered for the prompt.

I printed out a mini version of the digital art I created and attached it to the page. The stamp sticker I placed at the top I got at Michael’s on clearance during the weekend before I knew what the prompt was. The circle is actually a muffin/cupcake liner. I had wanted to use a pink one but all I had left were white.

The Documented Life Project: Week 2

The prompt for this week was to incorporate a selfie into the planner.  I don’t like pictures of me.  I hate them. So I decided instead to use a picture I took a couple of years ago where I wrote on my hands words that described me. I then stamped some of the words on the paper and added some spirals and flowers.  Its simple but it gets the message across.

The Documented Life Project: Week 1

The prompt for week 1 was to photograph, sketch, paint or incorporate your front door. Even though I created my door on the 1st I wanted to wait to post it here until I was done with my week one planner pages.

Rather than take a picture of my door I decided to draw and paint my front door.  However I decided to paint it in the colors I wish it was instead of the green it currently is. Though I really would like a black door but my husband has said “No one paints doors in black”. Though I have been told by several of the members in the facebook group that people do indeed paint them black and one person even sent me a pinterest link to show him.

For me the front door is the entrance to my sanctuary. My home is where I feel the most comfortable and the safest to be me. I enjoy being home. Though I have become too accustom to it and really only go out into the world during the weekend. It has never really bothered me because like I said I enjoy being home but its something that seems to bother other people and I’ve been told I need to change; as I am apparently becoming a hermit.

When creating my door I decided to allow it to open so I could write behind it.  I wrote “The front door is the entrance to my sanctuary. To the place I feel the safest to be me.. To those I hold very close to my heart..  But I fear I have grown too accustom to it. I know that in order to grow I must step into the light every now and then…”  I also drew in my two kitties looking out of the window.  I included them because this home is also their sanctuary.  They both had a rough start at life before we adopted them from the shelters and now they are both safe, healthy and spoiled.

Here are my planner pages for week one.  I included things from the new year’s event we attended, the prompt for the week, an expensive scratch off ticket I bought and wrote about things that happened this week. I also doodled a bit. You can click the images to get a larger image that will make it easier to read.

The Dogfish Head sticker I bought to use on the planner page but I then changed my mind and decided to use the cow from the menu instead.

I was actually going to create a little book to attach but I was worried that it might tear or get ruined since I was planning on gluing it so that it was open. I then decided to just draw it instead.

    Art Challenges for 2014

I decided this year to participate in some challenges.  I’ve decided to do The Documented Life Project which in their words is

One part planner plus one part art journal and one part weekly challenge equals an amazing year of organization, inspiration and community.

It seems interesting.  I am not much for planners so I’m not sure how this will go.  Though I do have some ideas.  I’m not going to spend money on buying a planner as I have one my husband purchased a few years ago on clearance at Borders.  Its a daily sundial planner.

    inside

I will be using it as a weekly planner.  I will use the section that says Tasks at the bottom of each page to list the things I want to do for the week.  I like the sundial and would like to incorporate it into my art whenever possible but I think most of the time it will be covered.  I plan to use the space above the tasks to doodle, sketch, draw, paint etc about things that happened during the week. Depending on how many tasks I have I may use both pages for the week and then add in a page for the weekly prompt.  If I only use one page then I will probably use the other for the weekly prompts.

I have already done some pages.  I like having my goals set before starting a new year so I created the goals section and I created a calender for January with a pocket to store things pertaining to that month.  At the end of each week I will post about the prompt and the finished week’s pages.

Below are the pages I created so far.  You can click the images to see a larger version.

I plan to add more to the inside cover but haven’t decided yet if I want to create an envelope to hold stuff or if I want to draw something.

A pocket I created by gluing two pages together. I can put little things that pertain to the month in here.

I also plan on participating in the Sketchbook Challenge.  For this challenge there will be a monthly theme to use when creating art.  From my understanding there doesn’t seem to be a set number of pieces we need to do in the month.

My friend Ruth has gotten a group of us to take part in a Shared Journaling Experience.  It will start later this month and will last for 12 weeks.  I’m really looking forward to this and to learning more about all these great women.

I think that will probably be it for now.  If I happen to come across another awesome challenge I may join but I really don’t want to spread myself too thin as I do have many other things I need to do this year.

    NaNoJouMo 2013

Saturday was the last day for NaNoJouMo.  I had fun even though some of the prompts stressed me out a bit while I tried to come up with something from either the title, meaning or words of the songs that I didn’t like or care for. I just took it as an extra challenge.  I did complete all the prompts and actually like most of my pages.  This was the first time I used prompts to art journal.  I didn’t like working with prompts.  I might be ok with a prompt or two every once in a while but not as an everyday thing.     As of now I am not sure if I will participate again next year.  Maybe if I do I might not participate everyday.  I will just pick & choose which prompts I will do.

Below is a slideshow of all the pages I created for NaNoJoumo.  You can also view them in the portfolio section.
