    Radiant Faces: Inner Child

Lesson Two: Inner Child was taught by Tamara Laporte.

I really liked working in this style. It felt much more natural and easier to do.

I chose to have my inner child hold a book because I love reading. Since the age of one I was always fascinated with books and tried to read even if the books were upside down. Reading is a fun little escape from reality for me. I did pigtails because I loved having them done on me when I was young. I also loved watching Scooby Doo. I was very shy growing up and still sort of am and I tried to show that. Though I am not sure if I was successful at that.

The sketch below was created during ICAD. The completed piece pretty much looks exactly like it.

To create this piece I used Staedtler Watercolor Crayons, Sharpie China Marker, Posca Paint Markers, Crayola Colored Pencils and Distress Inks. I love how it turned out. So much so that I don’t mind sharing her. I’m thinking about creating prints and possibly postcards to sell on my etsy store.

I’m not sure when I will be able to work on the other lessons since Radiant II and Inktober both start in 2 weeks. I’m also getting things ready for the 13 Hour Halloween Art-a-thon which is towards the end of October and I need to start working on some Christmas gifts. If I can squeeze in at least lesson three before October I will do so but no guarantees.

    Radiant: Faces – The Nymph

I had planned on posting after every two lessons of Radiant Faces but I’ve been busy working on other projects, preparing things for the Halloween Art-a-thon I am cohosting and being sick so its taking longer to complete lesson 2. Its almost done though.

I won’t go into much detail on any of the lessons as they are part of a class you have to pay for. I will mention the teacher, lesson title, whatever mediums I used and when possible post progress pictures besides the completed piece.

For the Radiant classes I decided to create my own journals using 140lb mixed media paper. I created several signatures and once I am done with the classes I will combine them all to create the journal. I won’t be creating the covers until I have completed both classes.

Lesson One: The Nymph was taught by Jane Davenport. For this lesson we had to choose a reference art piece and I chose “Flora and the Zephyrs” by John William Waterhouse.

    I specifically focused on Flora.

Besides trying to capture her face I really wanted to include her arms as well. Unfortunately after several tries I could not get them to look right so I decided to leave them out. Before drawing her on the mixed media paper I sketched her out several times on scrap paper. With each sketch I improved a bit.

Here is the completed piece. I used Dylusions Acrylic Paints, iridescent paint, Sharpie China Markers and Faber-Castell Pitt Pens. I think her eyes need more detail and maybe at some point I might add them but for now this is how she will stay. She isn’t perfect but I like how she turned out.

Before I leave you, I want to share a giveaway offered by Iris Fritschi-Cussens of Iris Impressions. She is giving away a free spot to Radiant II: Art Journaling. She will be one of the many teachers in Radiant II. If you are interested please visit her site for more information.
