    Upcoming Birthday Art Challenge

    January 24, 2022 /

This year for my birthday I decided to host an art challenge. There will be one prompt per week. You can use any medium as well as the optional color palette. The optional color palette has 4 colors and you can use all, some or none.

The prompts do not have to be created on the first day. You can take the whole week to create something. When you are ready to post your creation tag me, @melissacruzcampbell and use the hashtag #melsbdayartchallenge. I will repost all creations on my stories.

    365 Days of Doodles

    December 15, 2021 /

I’ve decided for 2022 to do a doodle a day. Though I will allow myself to do sketches, drawings or paintings as well in the journal but it will mostly be doodles. I am doing these doodles every day as a way to take 10 to 20 minutes a day to not think, worry or stress about anything. I’ve picked out a daily journal with blank pages that are numbered in the top corner from 1 to 365. Its nothing fancy and the pages are thin but for doodles it will work. The journal I bought is IPenny 365 Days Daily Planner/Journal on Amazon.

The back has a few lined pages and blank pages so I used 1 of the pages to test a few different mediums. I didn’t bother testing markers as it was obvious they would bleed through the thin paper. Wet mediums like watercolor, acrylic gouache & gouache work ok but I can’t go to heavy with water. Acrylic paint works fine. Arteza, Faber Castell, Staedtler & Ohuhu fineliners work great and don’t seem to show through to the other side. Colored pencils and most pens work fine as well.

My only rules for this are as follows.

    • A page a day for a year.
    • Can do anything (Doodles, Drawings, Sketches, Paintings, etc.)
    • Max 20 minutes per page but prefer 10 minutes.
I wrote the rules on the page before the numbered pages begin.

Every Friday I will create an Instagram Story with all the doodles I created that week. If you are interested in seeing what I create, follow me on Instagram.

    Update and October Art Challenges

    September 26, 2021 /

I have decided since my hands and wrists have been causing me a lot of pain the past few weeks that I will not be participating in any of the October Art Challenges. Hopefully this will allow my hands and wrists to improve. This saddens me because I love doing the October Art Challenges and of course this year I came across some new ones that I was interested in.

As I see challenges popup for October I save them so I can decide later which ones I am participating in. Even though I decided early in September to not participate I still saved the challenges I came across. Besides the popular challenges, Inktober, Drawlloween and Mab’s Drawlloween, there are many others. I thought I would share some of them below.
